The Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) is organising the International Conference in Honour of the 5th Anniversary of the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau of Latvia "Corruption Prevention and Combating - Current Trends and Future Challenges" on 9th of October in Riga.
The ultimate objective of the conference is to provide a forum for discussion and review progress made by specialised anti-corruption institutions towards overall reduction of corruption and fulfilment of international obligations set out in the various UN, European Union and Council of Europe anti-corruption conventions. The conference is expected to facilitate a dialogue among partners in Europe, hence reinforcing common efforts and providing a good opportunity to exchange mutually the gained experience.
At the conference various state institutions will be largely represented at the highest level, including Prime Minister, Director of the State Chancellery, Director of the Civil Service Board, Auditor General, parliamentarians from Defence, Internal Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee, as well as Latvian anti-corruption experts. The conference will be also attended by foreign representatives of the United Nations, European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), partner agencies from Austria, Lithuania and Poland, as well as representatives of the Working Group on Democratic Institutions of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and international anti-corruption experts.
Within the framework of the conference three panel discussions will be organised to assess the current trends in corruption prevention and combating and based on this assessment to envisage main future challenges to be addressed in the following years.
The conference will be concluded by a working meeting of the European Partners Against Corruption (EPAC) Working Group "Common Standards and Best Practice for Anti-corruption Agencies" chaired by KNAB and Lithuanian Special Investigation Service (STT).
