On 20 May the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) detained Rīga City Council official for alleged request and receiving of a bribe.
Evidence at the disposal of KNAB investigator indicates that Rīga City Council Housing and Environment Department official in April had requested a bribe of 13 000 euro for the extension of rental agreement with a legal person and in May previously requested bribe was received.
Evidences gathered in the criminal proceedings are sufficient to recognize Rīga City Council official a suspect for request and acceptance of a bribe (Criminal Law, Section 320, par.3).
Security measures unrelated to deprivation of liberty were applied in terms of bail of 20 000 euro and a ban to perform duties with limitations to execute certain activities related to decision taking, control and supervision functions in the Rīga City Council department.
For the interests of investigation no further information is disclosed.
KNAB states that no person is considered guilty until his guilt of a criminal offence is proved in accordance with the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Law.
