The conference will take place in Riga on 19 October 2012 (the Great Hall of University of Latvia, Raiņa bulvāris 19, Riga).
The conference is organized to mark the 10th Anniversary of the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau of Latvia and it is aimed at reviewing Latvia’s anti-corruption efforts, and to discuss two issues which are currently of utmost importance for Latvia to more efficiently fight corruption: liability of legal persons for corruption and prevention of conflict of interest.
In view of Latvia’s efforts to accede to the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention and become a full member of the OECD Working Group on Bribery one of a panel discussions of the conference will focus on the issue of legal persons’ criminal liability for corruption. It aims at reviewing Latvia’s legal framework for criminal liability of legal persons, identifying problems and discussing the necessary measures for improving the effectiveness of the current legislation and its enforcement. Part of the panel discussion will focus on foreign experience. The ultimate objective of this panel discussion is to review the national legislation and assess the international and foreign best practice in regard of application of criminal liability of legal persons and to use outcomes of the conference for finalising the necessary amendments to the legislation in order to achieve more effective legal framework, as well as full compliance with the international commitments in the anti-corruption area, including the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention.
The conference will be conducted in Latvian with simultaneous interpretation to English.
